Resident Artists
The Resident Artist program provides space and funding for leading American artists to create new work, explore new artistic ideas, and share their knowledge and expertise with the Arena Stage community. Arena Stage's Resident Artists have included playwrights, intimacy choreographers, mixed reality specialists, and this season, our residencies will focus on short-term, project-related residences that bring artistic collaborations together to create and develop new work or share artistic expertise.

Hochi Asiatico
Artist/designer Hochi Asiatico, one of the top costume painters in the industry, has perfected his fabric techniques over the last 23 years. During his residency at Arena Stage he will lead Master Classes for students, staff, designers and the costume community. Arena Stage audience members will be able to see Mr. Asiatico’s work on our production of Newsies for which he will help break down, age, distress and paint the costumes. HOCHI ASIATICO (Artist, Designer, Costume Painter) supplies beautiful fabrics and distressed costumes for musicals and plays. As a painter, he is exhibited in the U.S., Havana and Dominican Republic. Broadway Painting: Hadestown, Once on This Island, The Ferryman, Annie, Matilda, Miss Saigon, Ghost, A Free Man of Color, Wonderland, The Adams Family, The Color Purple, Lestat, West Side Story, Disney’s Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notredame, Arsace, Radiant Baby, and The Ringling Bros. Circus. Costume designer for La Barberia, Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret, Peter Pan and Cinderella.

Samantha Egle
Samantha Egle specializes in dramatic combat and intimate action. During her residency at Arena Stage, she will lead intimacy workshops for directors and actors, sharing tools and methodologies for the rehearsal room to create believable and safe moments of intimacy when called for on stage. In addition, Samantha will explore how these rehearsal techniques can transcend the rehearsal space and be utilized in administrative and office settings to build robust organizations utilizing the pillars of communication, empathy, belonging, boundaries, and consent.
About Samantha: Samantha Egle is a movement director and instructor specializing in dramatic combat and intimate action. Samantha has been training and working as a fight director since 2009 and has more recently expanded her movement direction work to include intimacy for the stage. She focuses on building consent, facilitating communication and developing affecting moments of physical storytelling on stage. Her work has been seen on the stages of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Denver Children’s Theatre, Upstart Crow, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot, Athena Project Festival, Lagoon Theme Park, The BiTSY Stage, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Denver, Wolf Theatre Academy, and numerous other educational institutions in Colorado. She is a certified Pilates instructor and the owner of Humble Warrior Movement Arts LLC through which she teaches Pilates and hosts theatrical movement workshops in Colorado. She has trained and received certifications in dramatic combat with the Society of American Fight Directors, Fight Directors Canada, the Society of Australian Fight Directors Inc., the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat as well as the Nordic Stage Fight Society. Presently, she is pursuing training with Intimacy Directors International and Theatrical Intimacy Education. She has trained in conflict facilitation, diversity and inclusion with Building Bridges. She is the current regional representative for the Rocky Mountain Region within the Society of American Fight Directors. She additionally serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the International Order of the Sword and the Pen. She has taught at Northwestern University, The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Denver School of the Arts and the University of Denver. She received her Bachelors of Science from Northwestern University where she studied theatre and creative writing for the media. In addition to her work as a movement specialist, Samantha has worked in the artistic/literary offices of The Public Theatre, Chicago Dramatists and Denver Center for the Performing Arts. She additionally works as a house and theatre services manager at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, a freelance stage and events manager, and copy editor.
Thoughts of a Colored Man
Arena Stage and producer Brian A. Moreland have partnered on a two-week intensive workshop of playwright Keenan Scott II’s Thoughts of a Colored Man. Directed by Taye Diggs, with choreographer Jennifer Parsinen, associate director Shannon Stoeke, and music and vocals by Madison McFerrin, the piece takes a raw and honest look at the limitations, stereotypes and obstacles that the world attempts to place on men of color through their discussions of love, race, education, family, and history.
